In 2019, the Troy Church of the Brethren engaged with the community to identify an unmet local need. Through conversations with Partners In Hope, a local faith-based nonprofit human services agency assisting those in need, it was discovered that certain community members were unable to do laundry due to financial constraints, lack of transportation, unemployment, and other factors. With a modest budget, dedicated volunteers, and a monthly service, the Laundry Outreach initiative was launched in the spring of 2019.
Since its' inception the Laundry Outreach has continued to grow and adapt to the needs of the community. The service is now offered two days per month with transportation provided as needed. It is not only funded by the Troy Church of the Brethren, but has also received grants from the Troy Foundation, the Southern Ohio and Kentucky District of the Church of the Brethren, the Physicians' Charitable Foundation of the Miami Valley, the Dayton Foundation and, most recently, Community Rides.
